Pakistan Monument & Museum, Islamabad

Pakistan Monument is a beautiful landmark designed by famous architect Arif Masood. 

It is located at Shakar Parian Hill in Islamabad.
 
The building structure is of a blossoming flower which exemplifies the four provinces of Pakistan and the remaining three petals represent  Gigit Baltistan, Kashmir and tribal areas.
 
It depicts the tale of people who participated in Pakistan Movement and sacrificed their lives in this great cause.
 
 
 
Pakistan Monument Museum is also located right beside the Pakistan Monument. It is a thematic museum having multi-dimensional displays of the birth, history, identity, society, advancement and achievement of Pakistan as a modern and progressive nation.
 
The segments on display relate to Indus Valley civilization, arrival of Islam and role of Sufism in the sub-continent, 1857 War of Independence, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Iqbal in Qutuba Mosque, Iqbals’s address in Allahabad, the Lahore Resolution, Gandhi – Jinnah talks,1947 independence and migration , Quaid as a lawyer, Quaid’s address to the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan, Quaid and Iqbal’s galleries of relics, a display on freedom fighters and on national achievements after independence.

Lok Virsa Museum, Islamabad

Lok Virsa (The National Institute of Folk & Traditional Heritage) is in Islamabad near at Garden Avenue near Shakarparian Hills.

 
The Museum is a platform for creating awareness of cultural legacy by collecting, documenting, disseminating and projecting folk & traditional heritage. 
 
The institute documents and conducts surveys of traditional culture. 
 
It has on display jewellery, ivory, woodwork, metalwork, bone work, embroidered costumes and block printing. Traditional architecture facades exhibiting such skills as fresco, mirror work and marble inlay; tile, mosaic and stucco tracery are also displayed.
 
The Heritage Reference Library is well equipped with resource data on ethnography, anthropology, folk music, art, history and crafts. Books on culture, heritage, audio and video-cassettes of folk and classical vocal and instrumental music can also be purchased at its sales centre.

Karachi Museum

In 1950, National Museum was established in Karachi on the premises of Frere Hall.

Later, in 1970, it was relocated to its present location in Burns Garden Dr. Zia Uddin Road.
 
The Museum has collection of cultural history of Pakistan. It has 11 galleries including the exquisite “Quran Gallery”. 
 
There are some selected masterpieces of Indus & Gandhara Civilization along with Islamic Art, Miniature Paintings, Ancient Coins, Manuscripts documenting Pakistan's Political History. 
 
The Ethnological Gallery displays life size statues of different ethnicities living in the four provinces of Pakistan.

Attock Fort

Attock fort is situated 110 km west of Islamabad on Grand Trunk Road (G.T Road) near a small town Attock Khurd in Punjab.
 
The fort was built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar in year 1581-1583.
 
Attock Fort stands tall and elegant at the junction of two rivers i.e. River Indus & River Kabul.
 
Here the water tide is very high, and  the rock forming the banks is of a dark-colored slate, polished by the force of the stream, so as to shine like black marble in clear blue stream.

Abottabad City

Abbottabad city is situated in the Orash Valley in Hazara region of Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa province.

 

The city is at a distance of 150 kilometers from capital Islamabad. The city is well-known for its pleasant weather, high-standard educational institutions and military establishments.
The city was founded in January 1853 by Major James Abbott who was also the first deputy commissioner of Abottabad district. 
Sarban Hills surround the twon from all four sides. This geography has resulted in very pleasant weather for the city in summer and cold in winter.

Gawadar City, Balochistan

Gawadar, a port city in south west of Balochistan is situated at adistance of 650 km from Karachi.

 

It is easily accessible by road via Coastal Highway, by air via Gawadar Airport & by sea via Gawadar Port.
 
Gwadar is strategically located at the apex of the Arabian Sea and at the mouth of the Gulf of Oman. The naturally hammerhead-shaped peninsula forming two almost perfect but naturally curved semicircular bays on either side are Gwadar West Bay and Gwadar East Bay.
 
It is largely flat barren with two hills, the Koh-e-Batil at the head of the hammerhead peninsula and Koh-e-Mehdi to the east of the city.
 
At the time of Pakistan Independance, Gawadar was colony of Sultanate-e-Oman. in 1958, it was purchased from Oman and officially became part of Pakistan.

Harappa, Sahiwal Punjab

Harappa was discovered in 1826 and first excavated in 1920 and 1921 by the Archaeological Survey of India.

It is located 35 km west of Sahiwal on the bank of River Ravi, Punjab.
 
The archeological site is part of Indus Civilization and one of the best known sites in Pakistan. 
 
These are the ruins of a Bronze Age fortified city.
 
The artefacts unearthed to date are miniature Votive Images or toy modelsHand-modeled terra-cotta figurines with polychromy, small square steatite seals engraved with human or animal motif.

Astola Island, Balochistan

Astola Island is the largest significant offshore island along the north coast of Arabian Sea in Pakistan.

It is approximately 25 km south of Pakistan’s Makran Coastline and approximately 39 km southeast of the Pakistani fishing port of Pasni.
 
Fisherman call it Haft Talar meaning seven rocks but the Island appears to form a single block. 
 
It is used as a base for fishermen between September and May to catch fish in general and lobster and oysters in particular.
Between June and August the Island remains free from human interference due to rough sea and high tides. 
 
The island is also sacred among Hindu pilgrims because there is an architectural remain of an ancient temple of the Hindu goddess Kali Devi.
 
A prayeryard has been constructed in the memory of a Muslim saint associated with oceans.
 
The island has a small solar operated light tower on top of one of the cliffs for the safety of passing vessels.
 
The island supports a large number of breeding seabirds including Larus hemprichii and several species of terns.
 
The internationally endangered Green turtle and critically endangered Hawksbill turtle frequents the site for nesting purposes along the sandy beach threatened.

Sukkur Barrage

Officially named the Lioyd Barrage but famous as Sukkur Barrage (built on river indus 5 km below sukkur gorge); it is the largest system of its kind in the world.

 
The Barrage was built during the British Raj from 1923 to 1932 and named Lloyd Barrage. (Sir George Ambrose Lloyd Governor of Bombay) who started this project. 
It has 66 gates/spans in the range of Rohri & Sukkur Ditricts.
 
Sukkur Barrage is the backbone of pakistan's economy, providing, through its network of canals, irrigation to approximately 25 percent of the total canal irrigated area of the country.
 
Seven Canals originate from the barrage. The Nara Canal is the largest in country having discharge almost equal to River Thames, England.

Kotri Barrage, Sindh

The Kotri Barage, Sindh also known as Ghulam Mohammad Barrage was built & opened in 1955.

It is about 1.0 km long.
The barrage has canals which provide cultivation water to vast tract of lands in Hyderabad Region.
 
The Barage also provides waterv to Kalri Lake which is the main source of water for Karachi.
