Haleji Lake, Thatta

Haleji Lake, situated at a distance of 88 km from Karachi on National Highway is a wildlife sanctuary for migratory birds.

 

It is an ideal refuge for wintering and home of thousands of birds and regarded as one of the most important wintering areas of migratory waterfowl in Eurasia.

It was a small salt water lake, which was converted by British Government into freshwater lake by constructing a feeding canal from River Indus during World War II.

The main water reservoir covers an area of 6.58 Sq. miles and the maximum depth being 17 feet.

Haleji Lake is a bird watcher's paradise. As many as 223 bird species have been recorded in the environs of Haleji Lake which include Osprey, Pallas's fish eagle, Buzzards, Harriers, Falcons, Wigeon, Coot, Shoveller, Pintail, Teals, Mallard, Heron, Jacana, Flamingos and sometimes Bewick's swan.

There are two islands known as Pelican Island and the other as Cormorant Island. These are resting places of birds which can be seen resting and enjoying the sun. There are marsh crocodiles too in here.

Haleji Lake is also one of the major sources of water supply to the increasing population of Karachi.

The best time to visit the lake is from November to February.

Head Marala, Sialkot

Head Marala (a hydro engineering project) is situated on River Chenab near Sialkot in Punjab Province.

It is a flood & flow control system on the river. The headwork was built in 1968 & has two major water channels i.e. Marala Ravi Link Canal & Upper Chenab Canal.

The place is a famous picnic spot & provides beautiful views of landscape.

Kundal Shahi Jagran Valley Kashmir

Kundal Shahi  is at a distance of  74 kilometers from Muzaffarabad. Here, Jagran Nallah joins river Neelum. The place is being developed for trout fishing. 

The bewitching beauty of Kutton permeated in the radius of 10 kilometers, makes Jagran Valley. The area is 16 kilometers from Kundal Shahi. It is accessible by an unpaved road. A few huts are also available here with basic facilities for the anglers.

Iqbal Manzil, Sialkot

Allama Iqbal the great philosopher, poet and politician who is widely regarded as having inspired the Pakistan Movement was born on 9th November 1877 in a place now known as Iqbal Manzil in Sialkot.

His father ShaikhNoor Mohammad was a tailor and a religious man and mother Imam Bibi was a polite & humble woman who helped the poor and solved the problems of neighbors.

Allama Iqbal studied law & philosophy in England. There during his studies he joined All Pakistan Muslim League.

His most famous speech which pushed for the creation of a Muslim state in Northwest India was delivered In the League's December 1930 session. He was very close to Quaid-e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah the founder of Pakistan.

In 1922, he was knighted by King George V giving him the title "Sir".

As a poet Allama Iqbal is known as Shair-e-Mashriq (poet of East). As a philosopher, he is remembered as Mufakkir-e-Pakistan and Hakeem-ul-Ummat.

The Government of Pakistan has declared him The National Poet & on his birthday, there is National Holiday in the country.

Tao Butt, Neelum Valley

Taobut, the border village is about 49 km from Kel. It is the place where Neelum River enters and continues its journey through narrows and mountains different streams in the way add its strength and finely tributes into river Jehlum at a spot at Domail in Muzaffarabad.

The area from Kel to Taobutt is called the Halmat. It is a fascinating but unexplored sight.  Janawai, Sardari and Halmat are the most beautiful places of this area. A tourist rest house has been constructed of Halmat to provide accommodation facilities to the visitors.

Sharda, Neelum Valley

The town of Sharda reputedly named after legendry princess Sharda (Elevation 5940 feet) is situated at a distance of 136km north of Muzaffarabad in Neelum Valley.

 

It has a captivating landscape with numerous springs and hill sides covered with trees. On the right bank, opposite to Sharda, the Neelum is joined by the Surgan Nallah along which a track leads to Nurinar Pass and through it to the Kaghan Valley. 

For centuries, it was a Buddhist and Hindu place of learning who built here the temple dedicated to Hindu goddess Sharda Devi. These ruined temple structures are a famous archeological site along with the old Budhist University.

Sharda town is surrounded by two mountain peaks named Shardi & Nardi which add its scenic beauty.

Pir Chinasi, Muzaffarabad

The tomb of Saint Shah Hussain Bukhari famous as Pir Chinasi is situated about 30 km from Muzaffarabad at the height of 9500 feet.

 

The location provides a breathtaking view of Muzffarabad city, Neelum valley and the magnificent snow covered mountains of Kashmir & Kaghan Valley.

Its lush green plateaus and magnificent weather wins the heart of nature lovers. The neighboring Pir Asimar, Phawna Da Danna and the areas in the bottom of Pir Chinasi, i.e. Saran, Sud Bun, Mushki, Sakki and Jarran Phirran are also worth seeing and perfect for hiking, trekking and camping activities. One can get to view several trekking trails and paths amidst a scenic setting. It is a beloved spot for the trekkers and the tourists with a daring bent of mind.

A Tourist Lodge at Saran provides lodging services to the tourists.

Sachal Sarmast Saint

Sachal Sarmast (1739–1829) which means truthful and intoxicated was born in Daraza village near Ranipur of Kahirpur Sindh.

Sachal was a great lover of music. Touched by music, he would often cry profusely. Couplets would pour out from his lips, which his followers or fellow dervishes would immediately inscribe. Sachal is well known for his kalam as well as kafis conveying his spiritual message in haunting melodies. Sachal preferred solitude and silence.

He is regarded as 'Shair-e-Haft Zaban' (Poet of Seven Languages) due to his poetical works in Arabic, Sindhi, Saraiki, Punjabi, Urdu,Persian and Balochi to address the wider audience in these languages. He spread the message of love for humanity through poetry.

Masum Shah Minarete, Sukkur

The most conspicuous structure of city is the minaret of Syed Nizam-ud-Din Mir Muhammad Masum Shah.

He was the governor of Mughal Emperor Akbar who appointed him as the Nawab of Sukkur.

The minaret was built in about 1607 It is of red bricks, more or less conical in shape, slightly off the perpendicular and surmounted by a dome to which an internal stone staircase gives an access.

Sadhu Bela, Sukkur

Sadhu Belo is a Hindue Temple situated on an island at the centre of the Indus River, near Rohri Bridge.
 
The island has two inlets i.e.  Sadh Belo and Din Belo.
 
 It was founded in 1823 by Swami Bakhandi Maharaj Udasi. The place is held in high esteem by Hindus throughout  Sindh and even in India and is frequented by pilgrims from across the border.
