The town of Sharda reputedly named after legendry princess Sharda (Elevation 5940 feet) is situated at a distance of 136km north of Muzaffarabad in Neelum Valley.

It has a captivating landscape with numerous springs and hill sides covered with trees. On the right bank, opposite to Sharda, the Neelum is joined by the Surgan Nallah along which a track leads to Nurinar Pass and through it to the Kaghan Valley.

For centuries, it was a Buddhist and Hindu place of learning who built here the temple dedicated to Hindu goddess Sharda Devi. These ruined temple structures are a famous archeological site along with the old Budhist University.

Sharda town is surrounded by two mountain peaks named Shardi & Nardi which add its scenic beauty.
