In the charming little town of Hammondsport in upstate New York State lies a gem of a museum dedicated to the legendary Glenn H. Curtiss (and local history), known as the Father of Naval Aviation in the United States, holder of Pilot Licence #1.

The Liberty V-12 was a 27 liter 400 hp engine designed for mass production and to spawn off modular variants. It powered the Curtiss NC-4 flying boat, the first airplane to make it across the Atlantic:
